Motherbees
A lot has changed since I was last pregnant with my youngest daughter. I attempted to stay home with my newborn baby for 40 days after her birth, which is the custom among many cultures for the safety of the wee child and recovery of the mama. The one problem for me when I was trying to hibernate in my nest, was I began to starve! I only wish there was a service like Motherbees back then to deliver me nourishing teas, strengthening broths, delicious soups and healthy salads. The founder Heng Ou is a certified health counselor and mother of three who really puts heart into her food. I for one am addicted to the hibiscus tea which shows you don’t have to be an expecting mama to order from Motherbees. You can order her items through Motherbees or Good Eggs a brilliant home delivery service. It is so vital for an expecting mama to get the nutrients she needs, and after the birth to support her and the baby. Interview with Heng Ou below!

1.) What inspired you to start Motherbees?
Having given three natural births of my own inspired me to start Mothernbees. I thought I could handle everything myself but I needed lots of help. I thought my husband, at the time, and I could become these amazing parents all at once – overnight really. But it took 5 years from constant learning for me to find my place as a mother and business owner. By combining my cultural background with modern day culinary science to provide healthful and nutritious meals not commonly and readily available to new moms.
2.) What is the most nutritional and beneficial product a mama to be should have?
I love the term “nutritionally dense food.” These are popular terms that come from old traditional ingredients that our modern world is just getting back to. Simple, nutritious, directly from the source food can benefit a mother immensely. The closer the food is to the source the more effective the nutritional ingredient can aid the body.
3) I love your teas even though I’m not pregnant. How do some of the herb teas help hormonal balance? Having a good cup of tea can heighten oxytocin levels. Women want more oxytocin in their lives, especially the modern cosmopolitan woman, who balances work, relationships and families. Having someone make it with love for you can boost your levels into the clouds.
4) What is your favorite beauty secret? Happiness, sleep, water and a good workout. I don’t use a lot of products and I believe in staying au naturale as often as possible. I drink apple cider vinegar with local honey and ginger and take oregano oil when my body drops in strength. Feeling beautiful starts by having a strong heart, mind and gut. Beauty for me, comes from within, so I believe as one ages, wisdom and life experiences shine through.
5.) Where or what is your favorite meal? I love sushi and I love sushi at Go’s Mart in Canoga Park. It’s not the ambience that draws me there since they play the local radio station and the room is decorated with 5 shades of the color orange. Go San is the chef I’ve secretly adopted as my uncle because I love his delicate masterpieces so much.
6) What is a good home remedy for morning sickness? First, a good remedy for morning sickness is rest and hydration. Secondly, emotional love and respect, abundant life and light around a pregnant mom will help. Thirdly, red raspberry leaves, nettle leaves, ginger, and calcium.
7) Where can we find your products? We will be rolling out our new products this year in grocery stores. In the meantime, dishes can be purchased through our website
www.motherbees.com.
8) My favorite is your hibiscus tea. How do you make it so delicious? Hibiscus tea takes time to infuse overnight. It holds various flavors such ginger and cinnamon for that balance of sour and sweet.
