Another Kind of Sunrise
Another Kind Of Sunrise speaks to me because it’s a non-gmo cereal bar that was made from love for love. Sweet couple Diana and Greg created this breakfast bar with the help of their friends and community and it shows. All the art work is done by their friends and they carry local produce and milks for the breakfast treats. All our favorites almond mylk from the Mylk Man, juices from Moon Juice, all organic porridges, cereal, teas and coffee. This is an example of creating positivity and light through having a small business.
For more of my favorite local and organic restaurants, see The Local Rose.
1) What inspired you to open Another Kind of Sunrise?
We have loved cereal since we were children. There were many periods in our lives, when we would eat cereal three meals a day. We always wondered why there were no cereal restaurants. Why were there no places to share this incredible staple/comfort food (especially the high-nutrition, organic versions) amongst friends? We mentioned the idea to some people, who gave us the momentum to look into it seriously. A month later, we were offered a spot on Abbot Kinney and here we are! We also wanted to build a space for the community, where our truly inspiring neighbors and friends could share their talents and knowledge.
2) What is your favorite breakfast dish?
We love the Fafurina’s organic paleo granola mixed with grass-fed, organic yogurt and fruit.
The granola is made with sprouted almonds, pumpkin seeds, pecans, shredded coconut, coconut oil, maple syrup, honey, and a pinch of salt. All organic, simple, and delicious ingredients.
3) Where do you see yourselves in ten years?
We hope continue with our careers in music, art, and acting. We plan to have a few small AKOS shops in different cities. And with those shops, we want to spread the word on eating healthier versions of cereal, especially for kids, who consume it regularly.
4) How concerned are you with the GMO issue?
Of course we are concerned with it. It’s a major threat to the health of the ecosystem and all that it encompasses (plants, animals, water, humans etc. etc.) We don’t serve any GMO products.
6) Last song you listened to?
“Why Won’t They Talk to Me?” by Tame Impala
yum! Love! Got goji? 😉
