One of my most favorite sites that I have been visiting lately is Nomad-Chic, a creative dream like collage of inspiration and beauty. Created by the talented Diana Oberlander, Nomad-Chic is perfect for us free spirited bohemians that yearn to wander the earth, swim in the sea, and discover fashionable gems off the beaten track. I am so excited to be featured as nomad of the week, where the collage of my world is seen through images of textiles, flowers, and places.  Diana weaves a beautiful tapestry that accompanies the interviews in such an artistic magical way! I got to discover a little bit about the mysterious and poetic Diana through her eloquent interview below.

1) WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START THE SITE NOMAD CHIC?

travel as completely transcendent & simultaneously tangible. an idea of traveling within oneself.

the reciprocity & synchronicity of love.

art semiotics.

wanting to share inspiration & manifest a site in which one could experience the magic & wonder of travel from wherever they are.

cerebral souvenirs.

travel as an exploration of space- whether through style, the work of a favorite artist, or a cup of tea.

connection to spirited, sophisticated & smart travelers.

meditation in ones favorite corner is as nomad as wandering the temples of angkor wat.

gratitude towards the extraordinary generous inspired creative & kind women of the world- those I know personally and those I hope to meet- creating an open community to exchange ideas, stories, and craft.

2) WHAT KIND OF NOMAD ARE YOU? WHERE DO YOU ROAM TO?

peripatetic by nature and a perpetual immigrant.

nomad from birth, i spoke three languages by the age of five and had lived in three very different regions of the globe- the former ussr to an ancient desert homeland to new york city.

definitely insular travels- narratives, people, experiences & energy.

cultural nomad- from the oeuvre of louise bourgeois to every season of “Survivor”

as for global destinations, laos and sri lanka are favorites.

big connection to thailand.

wild overgrown country always resonates- Kenya to Brazil, i love an open sky & unfurling dusty road .

usa loves are big sur, joshua tree, deep desert & islands- NYC is an anchor.

As far as vacation, give me a great book on an isolated tropical beach- and no wifi.

3) WHAT ARE FAVORITE NOMADIC BEAUTY SECRETS OR RITUALS?

you are what you eat -if you can’t eat it, you probably shouldn’t wear it.

local natural organic products.

water, water, water.

essential oils for mood mending & skin elasticity.

salt baths & sea swims.

stay out of direct sunlight from ten am to four pm.

when happy & at peace with self, one glows sexy.

body & spirit massages.

stress & anxiety are beauty thieves.

(being in) love looks amazing.

sleep near moonstone.

4) WHAT BOOK IS BY YOUR BED SIDE?

BE HERE NOW & ON THE ROAD

AN ATLAS & THE KAMA SUTRA

A JOURNAL, ALWAYS

5) ARE YOU A MERMAID OR FOREST FAIRY?

A SUPER EARTHY LADY (I’M AN OX & MY SUN IS IN A VERY EARTHY SIGN) WHO FEELS MOST AT EASE SWIMMING & IN THE WATER www.nomad-chic.com/its-always-ourselves-we-find-in-the-sea-nomad-swim.

6) WHAT IS YOUR IDEAL NOMADIC EXPERIENCE?

raising a child as a parent with a true, soul partner and incorporating inspiration & new experiences into our routine.

otherwise, i suppose i’m having it- nomad-chic as a brand is constantly evolving which keeps my mind & spirit challenged, engaged & in motion.

An ideal nomad year would be two fall & spring months in nyc, two in California & southwest- three months in south east asia, three months wandering remote destinations. right now i’m dreaming of bhutan, new zealand, & alaska.
