Wren

Melissa Coker the beautiful, chic and well read designer of Wren lives and designs in Silver Lake. Anyone who names their line after a Dicken’s character is my kind of lass.
Her faux fur jacket for fall is so Edie meets Mrs. Robinson and Alexa Chung is already a fan. I had the pleasure of meeting her on a photo shoot and I was instantly taken by her golden beauty and gamine style.

The Story
It’s fascinating how our life experiences can influence our dressing. I notice when my spirits are low I really can look like a house frau. I will even attempt to leave the house in some caftan I slept in until my daughter will make a crack. It’s all about story telling for me. I know my light is coming back on when I actually put some thought into who I want to be for that day. I was recently watching Henry and June late one night, and I was reminded how that film transformed me when I first saw it in my late teens. I was so enthralled with the lives of Anais, Henry and June and the way they dressed that I went through an Anais/June stage for about a year. Only 1930 dresses, torn stockings, black kohl eyes and hair in a messy bun. I wish at times I could just adopt a uniform like Frida Kahlo or Katherine Hepburn. Now with so many responsibilities and raising kids I can’t be as indulgent, and a uniform would make it so much easier. It would take some real imagination to come up with an original uniform that is cool and easy.
After meeting Melissa Coker from Wren I felt a bit of the stirrings of the fashion muse.
I may not be able to pull off Jean Seberg goes to sell her New York times look al a Breathless anymore, but I could perhaps emulate Marilyn in Niagara or Mrs. Robinson
by the pool. Until I come up with the uniform I’m thrilled to wear one of Melissa’s sweet frocks!
