An Angel Among Angelenos . . . Astrid Heger
I’ve been blessed to know several true angels on this earth: Eve Ensler who founded V-Day, Mary Hartzell parenting expert, and Astrid Heger who spends every day (including weekends) in the trenches of of dark misery tending to abused woman and children. In 1984 Astrid founded Violence Intervention program which currently treats over 10,000 child abuse and child sexual assault victims every year. VIP is now the model program replicated in hundreds of programs around the world. Some of the scenarios Astrid has treated are beyond brutal. The only shred of light in this abyss is that Astrid is giving these young children a gentle path to recovery. Astrid is a warrior bodhisattva who will wipe off the tears of a nine year old raped child, as she attends to the business of DNA samples and stitches.
