Wendy Polish = Bringing Folk Love our Homes
Wendy Polish reminds me of how many things I want to do! Her designs and talents are endless, so much so that I couldn’t decide which of her treasures to post about! She designs linens, stationary, candles, dolls and more. She is a local lady and her charming designs fill me with cheer. Her candle line Le Feu De L’eau that she hand crafts with Jo Strettell is also extraordinary. My favorite scent being of course Profound Rose.
1) What inspired you to start your line?
I wanted to create objects for the home that lift your spirit
and could tell a story. I have always been inspired by the
crafts from indigenous cultures and how they would
communicate their stories or beliefs through the imagery
they wove into their rugs and painted on ceramics. Right now
I love working with graphics that represent the sky and earth.
I like the idea of bringing symbols of the outdoors into our living
space with unique patterns and bold colors.
2) Not only do you design linens and cards but
you also have an amazing candle line. Do you
feel Los Angeles is a good place to be an artisan?
Absolutely. Everyone within the community is very supportive.
I am surrounded by talented people and we all help one another
in different ways…I most likely couldn’t do everything I am doing
without collaborating with other L.A. artists. Also, Los Angeles is
loaded with supplies and resources. We have just about everything
at our finger tips. Where else can you buy belgian linen, candle wicks
& printmaking supplies all within a few miles.
3) Where is your favorite local place to eat?
Sage Organic Vegan Bistro in Echo Park
4) What book is on your night stand?
Does my husband’s screenplay count?
5) Are you a mermaid or forest fairy?
Forest Fairy from the Lolo National Forest
6) What are you presently inspired by?
Peruvian textiles, folklore, intergalactic space & my daughter.
