Local Garden Fairy

August 10, 2012 | 0 Comments

Florence Lysaght (Flo) is the real deal. Through her blog and site Plumes you can see all the elements she encompasses. A true fairy goddess who has a traveling wagon named Minerva (greek word for crafts, wisdom and poetry) that offers healing handicrafts, elixirs, elemental oils and more. I bought some incredible nettle tea from her and next I’m going for the all natural, luxurious body butter she hand crafts. She also offers to host Scared Circles at our hearths, where we can get back to the mother with learning how to craft our own blends, and restoring ritual to our life. As she states in her site, hearth is a combination of heart and earth. Flo truly is a goddess fairy!

1) What inspired you to be a herb fairy?

It was written in the stars.  It was simply awakening to my unique, divine gifts and expression by tuning into my feelings. My ancient soul and heart guided me to embody and walk the path of my highest self.  Part of my higher calling is sharing ancient wisdom to awaken, inspire, and restore the sacred.  I am passionate about restoring the sacred in our daily lives as way to co-create our New Love Story and World.  A few of my earthly stage names are garden fairy, alchemical rainbow visionary, and dancing peacock.

2) Is it difficult in the age of Monsanto to make sure we have access to pure, organic, non toxic herbs?

There are many ways to access pure, organic herbs for cooking, crafting, and supplying your home pharmacy.  My suggestion is to grow them in your garden or forage around pristine habitats.  Connect and exchange herbs and seeds with organic growers in your community.  Horizon Herbs in Oregon is one of my favorite sources for medicinal seeds.  I like gardening as a metaphor for life.  NOW is the time to gather and awaken to our divine roots and inherent potential.  Coming together with the intention of planting seeds for the highest good of ALL is truly the way to reap boundless joy on this planet!

3) What book is on your night stand?

Two books on healing teas and one that I checked out from the Santa Monica Public Library called The Direct Path: Creating a Journey to the Divine Using the World’s Mystical Traditions.

4) Do you like to forage in a particular place?

I am wildly passionate about herbs and flowers. I am Flo in flow and flower. I seek them out everywhere I go.  I care for plants and connect with the earth every day in my own garden where I grow several herbs.  I also stock my home apothecary with dried organic, biodynamic or wild harvested herbs from farms in California, Oregon, Wisconsin, and Massachusetts.  Right now as an urban dweller, I am fortunate to have space to grow and also have access to several community gardens and urban farms.  Two days ago I harvested wild rose, passionflower, and bundles of rose geranium and basil from a nearby urban farm.  The energy in my kitchen sanctuary is amplified even more with the vibration, aromas, and presence of these plants.
