If you’re looking for local activities this Thanks Giving Holiday the Santa Monica museum has a wonderful exhibit on Beatrice Wood. I personally love to visit her house and now museum in Ojai, but this exhibit is quite extensive and really captures her talent and life. Just to look at photos of her in her extensive native jewelry collection is a treat. Wood had such an interesting life as an accomplished actress and later as a potter. Some say the French film Jules and Jim was based on her and her relationship with Marcel Duchamp and Henri Pierre Roche. She moved to Ojai in her later years to be near her dear friend and spiritual guru Krishnamurti. She once said,

My life is full of mistakes. They’re like pebbles that make a good road.”

Did you know there is a Craft and Folk Art Museum here in town?
The museum across from LACMA is creating awareness of community and the lost art of crafting. Their logo states: “because a shrinking world requires an expanded mind”. That says it all . . . It may be a great jaunt for the tribe on a rainy day.

La Weekly just named the museum the “Best Handmade Museum” and the gift shop has wonderful treasures. It may be a great christmas shopping stop. Not only are the items supporting local craft makers but the idea behind this museum is so valuable. A place where dreamers, storytellers and craft folks can bring light to the city. The items below are all really reasonable and available at the shop The Egg and The Eye.
