Are we awake? Are we waves in the process of awakening? These are all what I ponder when I think of this lovely label.  I really got to know Jaclyn Hodes when I went to celebrate Summer Solstice in New Mexico last year. She was a vision in white, with her gentle demeanor and melodious laugh. I had known of her work as a designer and was inspired by her eco based ethics for her gorgeous dresses. Her label AwaveAwake is made with ethically sourced fabric and the stunning jewel tones are derived from plant based colors. She is magical being , a free spirited traveler, and a feminine vision with her waist length hair who brings her Kundalini practice into her work as a designer and artist. I had a inspiring day with her and our mutual friend, brilliant photographer  Annabel Mehran  in my garden. We drank tea, danced among the flowers and discussed all matters related to spirituality and love. AwaveAwake’s look book  Shot by Annabel, features the ethereal fairy Kirsty Hume who is now learning permaculture off the grid in Northern California. Interview with Jaclyn below.

1) What inspires you? Does your spiritual practice add to this? I’m inspired by clothing from previous centuries, indigenous textiles, traveling near and far, design inspired by nature and the honoring of the Earth in all ways.  Spiritual practice tunes me into whats most important and clearing the clutter, and continually reconnects to my mission in love and work.

2) What inspires the beautiful color palettes?
I base the color palette each season on a destination that I had recently visited.  I try and create a sense of experience through color.  The sensations, the sounds and the literal visuals, all distilled into color blocks of inspiration, gathered from photographs, artifacts and memories capture the place in multi-dimensional ways.

3) Where is your most favorite place in this realm?
Big Sur, where the sea and the mountains meet on especially sacred land.

4) Are you a forest fairy or mermaid?
The hardest question I’ve ever had to answer. . .feeling like a forest fairy at this particular moment in time.

5) What is a beauty secret?
Sleep, it’s so elusive as I’m a light sleeper but when I get the rare full night of it, everything is more beautiful.

6) Do you have a favorite beauty product?
I love face oils from Pratima Spa. They are all natural and formulated by Pratima herself and based on one’s Ayurvedic dosha and are so very nourishing. (interview with Pratima coming soon)

Where do you see yourself in ten years?
I see myself living overseas on a spot of beautiful land with a family and collaborating with the surrounding environment, the flora and fauna and its human inhabitants too, to create beautiful works, consciously and creatively.

8) Whats your favorite meal?
Anything with kelp noodles.

9) last song you listened to?
So Purkhs, by Nirinjian Kaur, a beautiful version of the mantra on repeat, playing even while I sleep for good measure.

10) Book on your nightstand?
LOVE IS IN THE EARTH
